Benefits of Fluoride

What is fluoride?  Fluoride is a natural occurring mineral found in soil, water, plants and foods.  There are many benefits to using topical fluoride.  It can strengthen tooth enamel and stop the progression of tooth decay which is extremely beneficial to those who are susceptible to cavities.  Communities with fluoridated water actually save money on dental treatment due to the stimulation of new bone formation and strengthened enamel.  Fluoride can also minimize sensitivity for those who suffer from gums and teeth that are more sensitive.

There are some differing opinions out there on fluoride due to false information.  Systemically, fluoride can be harmful if you ingest large quantities, however, topically on teeth it is perfectly safe and extremely beneficial.  So if you suffer from sensitive teeth or frequent cavities ask your dentist about fluoride treatments.  It's like vitamins for your teeth!
